A stunning mid-Victorian Coalbrookdale pierced plate or wall plaque features ornate scrolling foliage and Greek sea gods, including Amphitrite, Poseidon, Triton as well as sea monsters. Remnants of original gold tone gilt finish visible. Manufactured by Coalbrookdale, Shropshire, England at the Coalbrookdale foundry. Designed by German architect Karl Friedrich Schinkel, who studied cast iron techniques in England before creating for the Berlin foundry, the same motifs are seen on the iconic Schloßbrucke in Berlin. This cast iron piece was exhibited at the Great Exhibition of 1851 and produced by Coalbrookdale from c. 1840 to 1870.
